Wind power generating capacity increased by 45% in 2007 U.S. wind energy industry installed 5,244MW last year Installed wind energy generating capacity now totals 16,818MW. The installed wind power fleet is expected to generate an estimated 18 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind energy in 2008, just over 1% of today’s U.S. electricity supply, powering the equivalent of more than 4.5 million homes.

The total amount of electricity that could potentially be generated from wind in the U.S. is estimated at 10,777 billion kWh annually—that’s nearly a 50,000% growth over today’s capacity.

• Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center in Texas, 130 jobs
