Okuma's GA26W Optimizes High Volume Work Lines with Compact Wheelhead Design

Floor space is often just as valuable as cycle time. According to the company, the Okuma GA26W addresses both challenges simultaneously, offering a compact, high-precision solution for grinding small parts in the automotive, motorcycle, and hydraulic industries. Unlike traditional grinders that can dominate a shop floor, the GA26W utilizes a unique wheelhead traverse structure. This design significantly shrinks the machine's footprint, allowing shops to shorten their work lines and maximize efficiency without sacrificing power.

Don't let the small stature fool you. This machine is built for the rigors of mass production, capable of handling workpieces up to 7.87" in diameter and 25.6" in length. To ensure the stability required for tight-tolerance work, Okuma engineered the GA26W with wide V and flat guideways. This foundation provides the extreme rigidity needed to maintain accuracy over long production runs.

Performance is further bolstered by a 20HP hydrodynamic wheel spindle. This spindle design ensures high rotational accuracy and the "real power" necessary to maintain surface finish quality even under heavy loads. Controlling all that hardware is the OSP-P300GA control, which features IGAP+ conversational programming. According to Okuma, this makes the machine remarkably easy to operate, allowing even less-experienced programmers to set up complex grinding cycles quickly.

For job shops and OEMs looking to modernize their small-part production, the GA26W offers a rare combination: the muscle of a full-sized grinder with the agility and space-saving benefits of a compact machine.
