Heule Launches Single-Pass CNC Tooling to Automate Backside Chamfering

For high-mix job shops, manual deburring and secondary setups on the back side of through-holes are massive profit killers. Stopping a CNC machine to flip a part or manually clear burrs takes up operator time and stalls throughput. Heule's SNAP tooling solves this by automating both front and back chamfering in a single, uninterrupted pass.

The mechanic relies on a clever mechanical blade window. As the rotating tool feeds into a hole, the lead edge cuts a clean 45-degree chamfer. Once the cut is made, the tool pushes deeper into the part, forcing the carbide blade to retract smoothly into the tool body. Only a polished, ground surface glides against the bore walls, ensuring internal dimensions remain undamaged. There is no need to stop or reverse the spindle at any point.

When the tool clears the back of the part, an internal control mechanism snaps the coated carbide blade back into the cutting position. As the spindle withdraws, the rear edge gets chamfered instantly. Once that cut is complete, the blade retracts again, allowing the operator to rapid feed out and move straight to the next hole.

Standard sizes run from 2.0 mm up to 35.0 mm, with custom sizes available for larger diameters. The system also comes in cassette options that can be embedded into multi-task custom tools like drills or boring bars.

For a job shop, standardizing on this single-pass tooling eliminates extra tool changes, drops cycle times on high-volume manifolds or aerospace housings, and entirely removes manual hand-deburring from the workflow.
