The Mazak VC-Ez 20 vertical machining center is a rigid, high-performance machine built to help job shops step up from basic, commodity-grade equipment. Designed and manufactured in Kentucky, this system targets tight-tolerance workloads by combining heavy cutting muscle with quick rapid traverse rates. By optimizing the physical layout, the machine covers just 102.65 square feet of floor space. This is a 26.5% reduction in footprint compared to similar models, allowing shops to expand their machining capacity without crowding their workspace.
The machine handles significant weight and size, accommodating workpieces up to 49.21 inches long, 19.37 inches wide, and 22.4 inches tall, with a maximum part weight capacity of 2,204 pounds. The axis travels provide a working envelope of 41.34 inches in X, 20.08 inches in Y, and 25 inches in Z. To cut down on non-cutting time and boost throughput, the machine utilizes rapid traverse rates of 1,654 inches per minute across all three axes.
Standard equipment features a powerful 40-taper, 12,000 rpm spindle delivering 25 horsepower, paired with a 30-tool automatic tool changer. For shops tackling tougher materials or complex geometries that demand extra torque, an optional upgrade provides a 15,000 rpm spindle pushing 29.5 horsepower and 81.13 foot-pounds of torque, which can be paired with an expanded 50-tool magazine.

To combat ongoing labor shortages, the machine supports field-ready robot automation. Shops can configure the system with factory-supplied automatic doors and dedicated robot interfaces for clean, straightforward integration.
Programming and operation are tailored to a shop's specific workflow through three distinct control options. The standard MAZATROL SmoothEz control utilizes conversational programming for fast, easy setups. The mid-tier SmoothG control adds process management and advanced tuning functions for higher accuracy. For the most demanding applications, the optional SmoothX CNC unlocks maximum software processing speeds to drastically cut cycle times on complex tool paths.
