
Travers Tool Co. has expanded its lineup with the T&O X-Max™ solid carbide end mill series, targeting machine shops looking to balance tight-tolerance precision with tight tooling budgets. Instead of chasing overpriced premium brands, these mills offer a cost-effective alternative built to withstand the punishing heat and abrasion of difficult materials.
The core of the series relies on a 12% cobalt substrate. This material formulation delivers the necessary structural toughness to resist edge chipping under heavy loads. Protecting that edge is an Aluminum Chromium Nitride (AlCrN) coating, which creates a slick, thermal barrier against intense zone heat. This combination extends tool life when milling through tool steels, stainless, die materials, and gummy nickel-based superalloys like Inconel.
For high-mix shops running repetitive parts, accuracy comes down to predictable tool wear and strict manufacturing standards. These end mills hold an ultra-tight diameter tolerance of 0 / -0.0008". That consistency means fewer offsets, predictable tool-path programming, and repeatable surface finishes across long production runs.
